Good all-rounder skis? Preferably twin tips.

Hi there can anyone recomend a pair of skis suitable for a ski instructor course?. Not much to go on I know but to be honest I don't know all that much about skis.

Also what length should I get, how is it determined? etc. Cheers. I know its still a month or so away but I haven't even thought about it yet and I like to have a vauge idea Smile

I am no expert, but there are a lot of factors to take in went parting with all that hard earned cash for a new pair of skis.
There's your phyical size, how you ski. where your going to use them.

Have a look at Phils comments in "NEW SKI REVIEWS".
I'll be waiting till I get to Canada and seekiing the advise of the experts.

Hey Mike, as Trevor stated it depends on many factors: height and weight as well as your current skiing ability. Twinnies are not necessarily ideal for ski instructor training - yes, they look good and yes everyone wants to be able to land/ take off jumps in switch but you have to consider the fact that you will be spending the majority of your time on piste working on technique. Twinnies tend to be wider underfoot (the waist - the distance from one side to another underneath the binding) and this makes them more difficult to turn. You want to go for a ski with a waist of about 67-72mm for ease of turn. Ze German (Philipp Schuettler) mentions the Head XRC 1200 - this is a good ride but quite an advanced ski and is very stiff so a little unforgiving. Its little brother the Head XRC 800 may be better for those with less experience and is well good enough to take you to CSIA level 2 instructor and above. This season I shall be riding a pair of XRC 1200s on the piste (I've been skiing a little while) but I also have a pair of Volkl Mantras which are 94mm underfoot for when I venture into the backcountry! Volkl make awesome skis as well: check out the AC2s or AC3s for the programme.
Mike, if I remember you are about 5'9'' (???) so you want a ski about 165cm or thereabouts. If you insist on a pair of twinnies for the course, the Volkl Karma are about as good an all-round ski as I have ever come across. They come in 169cm and measure about 75mm or so underfoot.

hey.

Im skiing on a pair of Salomon thrusters 171, had all season on them last year and they where great, had amazing flex, they wernt too wide so were easy to carve on. they where twintip so where great fun. if you havent skiid much though i would say go for some alpines. you dont need to spend loads of money on some armadas or lines, you can get some fairly cheap skis which will be as good as them if your not doing huge switch 5s or whatever. Have a look at the K2 fujatives aswell, there good skis.
