Short Ski Instructors Course

Early-season, 3-week ski instructors course

There are not many resorts in Canada that could host a ski instructors course starting in early December and be sure of some good snowfall. Fortunately Banff is one of those places and its reputation as Canada’s most snow-sure resort is well-deserved. Off-snow, the town of Banff is well set-up to offer you as much to do in the evenings as the mountains can offer during the day.

The idea behind the SnowSkool three-week ski instructors course is two-fold. If you have a winter season to spare and a working visa for Canada, we want to give you the qualifications early enough to get you out there working as a ski instructor as soon as possible. With your level one qualification, you can spend the season teaching skiing in Canada. For those that are not able to spend about 20 weeks in the Canadian winter, it is a great chance to take a three-week activity holiday, to hugely improve your skiing and to return with a professional qualification that was fun to obtain. And who knows, it may lead to something later on...!

Who chooses this course?

People on SnowSkool's ski instructors course

At three weeks, this is the shortest of SnowSkool’s ski instructors courses in Canada and so we expect students to arrive as strong skiers, ideally red-runners with an ability to ski comfortably on-piste in most conditions.

The group is normally split between the gap year crowd (School-leavers/ University graduates) and a number of people in their late-twenties/ early-thirties taking a holiday to improve their skiing and gain a qualifications. For those that have the right to work in Canada, we can help you not only with getting your ski instructor qualifications, but also with finding work as a ski instructor for the rest of the season.

Ski Instructors' Qualifications

CSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor

CSIA Ski Instructors Qualification

Within the CSIA system (Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance), there are four levels of ski instructor. This short SnowSkool course trains you for the CSIA Level 1 exam – although an entry level qualification, it is sufficient to see you working throughout North America as well as in Andorra, Australia, Bulgaria, Japan and in snowdomes and dry slopes in the UK.

Becoming a ski instructor and focussing on the technical aspects of your skiing will improve your technique massively. Most importantly, you will learn how to self-analyse meaning that the improvements to your skiing should continue long after the course is complete.

SnowSkool Case Study - Gary Young

Gazza joined SnowSkool for the short, early-season course in 2008 as he had already a Canadian working visa and fancied his chances at getting his Level 1 qualification and then heading out to try to find some work after the course. And his bet paid off!

Gary passed his Level 1 (above standard on both skiing and teaching) and landed a job at Nakiska where he saw out the rest of the season. Gazza was last heard off working one of the ski hills in Bulgaria as a CSIA Level 2 instructor. Get in touch if you read this, mate!
