NZSIA Ski Instructor Qualifications

SnowSkool operates its New Zealand ski instructor course at Cardrona on New Zealand’s south island. All skiers will work towards the ski instructor exams of the NZSIA (New Zealand Ski Instructors’ Alliance). ISIA (the International Ski Instructors’ Alliance) recognises NZSIA which means that NZISA ski instructors have the right to work internationally subject to attaining the Level 2 qualification.

NEW ZEALAND SKI INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATIONS WITH SNOWSKOOL

New Zealand Ski Instructor - NZSIA Level 1

This four-day entry level qualification is your first step to working as a ski instructor. In terms of skiing ability, successful candidates will be parallel skiers using the edges so the skis carve and you remain balanced and controlled on your skis. You will be able to make short, medium and long radius turns on most terrain.

SnowSkool pass rate: 100%

NZSIA Ski Instructor Qualifications

New Zealand Ski Instructor - NZSIA Level 2

This is the ski qualification required to progress within the industry and teach higher-level (advanced) skiers. During the eight-day course, you will demonstrate an ability to teach wedge turns and advanced-parallel turns, analysing skiing styles and planning lessons. Skiing-wise, you will have to be an advanced skier able to ski dynamically on and off-piste and perform basic short turns. It is a tough course but SnowSkool has the training to give you every chance of success.

"It’s been an awesome ride since my SnowSkool course. I have now done four seasons in two years – one season for training and three seasons working as a ski instructor. I spent my first season (in at the deep end!) working for a Ski School in Gerlos, Austria before heading back down under to work the southern winter at Thredbo in Australia. And now I have just finished a season at Borovets in Bulgaria. It’ll be back down to Thredbo in July 2011 and then…who knows?!"
