ON THE SLOPES IN CARDRONA

Snowfall

Because Cardrona Ski Resort has New Zealand’s highest lift-served skiing and snowboarding, you are all but guaranteed great snow from the beginning of the season in June until last lifts in October. With an average of ten feet of natural, powder snow per year, Cardrona has one of the best snowfall records in New Zealand backed-up by extensive snow-making facilities that covers the majority of the mountain. Wanaka is rarely snowed-in and so even though you can be skiing/ riding powder up at the Cardrona ski hill, the conditions are a lot more favourable down in the town centre where mild temperatures and sunny days are the norm.

Terrain

Cardrona is the south island’s second largest ski area with almost seven hundred acres of skiable terrain. The mountain is ideal for hosting SnowSkool ski instructor courses and snowboard instructor courses: the slopes are perfect for demonstrating ski & snowboard techniques and drills to ensure that you become the best ski or snowboard instructor that you can be. There is also plenty of exciting backcountry terrain to allow you to push yourself and to keep the more intrepid skier or snowboarder satisfied.

For those of a more adventurous nature, the freestyle park at Cardrona offers every type of kicker, table top and rail imaginable. And with a new hi-speed quad replacing the old chair at the Captains Lift, it will now be two-and-a-half times quicker to get to the top of the mountain. What this basically means is less time sitting on the chairlift and more time skiing or riding! And everyone likes that!

The Ski & Board School

In Cardrona, SnowSkool works with a specialist School whose sole purpose is training people to become a snowboard instructor or a ski instructor. The High Performance Centre employs only the most experienced and highly-qualified ski instructors and snowboard instructors. This is a highly technical programme and the improvements in your skiing and snowboarding will be profound and achieved in a very quick and efficient fashion.

Our mission at the Instructor Training Centre here in Cardrona is to provide the best ski and snowboard instructor training courses internationally and we do this by employing the very best, most highly-qualified and most experienced ski instructors and snowboard instructors.
