There are ski instructor courses and there are ski instructor internships and then there’s the hybrid model as offered by SnowSkool, beating a path as always in the world of ski teaching!

With SnowSkool, it is a full season (from Nov thru Apr) of expert ski training interspersed with exams interspersed with (guaranteed) paid work in the Big White Ski School interspersed with more expert ski training, more exams and more (guaranteed) paid work in the Big White Ski School! Another factor that sets the SnowSkool course apart is that you will work towards both the CSIA Level 1 and CSIA Level 2 exams.

Slopes

It’s pretty tough to stand-out as a ski hill in Canada – a country of almost 300 ski hills, many of which regularly featured on bucket-lists around the world. But Big White has found its niche, not as the biggest or gnarliest but as the most fun. It has powder bowls aplenty, some of the best tree-skiing in the world, a double-black-diamond off-piste zone known as The Cliff, a Park that can be dialled-up to test the mettle of Pro Freestylers and a diversity of slopes, chutes, couloirs that will challenge the skills of all types of skiers. And the fact that it gets hammered by butt-loads of snow every season only adds to its allure and emphasises these natural features!

For those that are not there for fun but to learn how to teach skiing, Big White also has some super-mellow training terrain and a dedicated nursery area with gently-sloping, wide zones and a magic carpet!

Accommodation

Your course fees cover accommodation for the first three weeks of the SnowSkool programme which covers the period in the schedule dedicated to getting you qualified as a ski instructor, before you start working in the Big White Ski School. And all SnowSkool digs in Big White are located slope-side and with some stand-out features for both your comfort and for your convenience:

Tuition

Training begins at the end of November and you will receive 12 full-days of training under the watchful eye of some of Canada’s best ski instructors followed by the three day CSIA Level 1 exam which has been scheduled to get you qualified and into your guaranteed job as a ski instructor in time for the busy Christmas and NY period. January & February will be a combination of working in the Ski School (2 - 3 days per week) and training for the CSIA Level 2 exam (2 days per week) which will take place in March (alongside more work in the Ski School!)

Qualifications

Ski instructors in Canada are regulated by CSIA (the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance). If you join the ski instructor internship in Big White, you will train for and have the opportunity to sit the Level 1 and Level 2 ski instructor exams of CSIA.
