SnowSkool Instructor Courses in Canada
Sunshine Village, Banff
SNOWBOARD & SKI INSTRUCTOR COURSE RESORT GUIDE
If Carlsberg offered ski and snowboard instructor courses, HQ would be in Banff, Alberta! Ski towns aspire to be like Banff but nowhere does it better. For years, Banff has been renowned as a ski and snowboarding Mecca for people from all over the world – it is the ideal place to spend a few months, improving your skiing, learning to become a snowboard instructor or simply getting into the mountains and immersing yourself in the seasonnaire lifestyle.
With three world-class ski hills – Sunshine Village, Lake Louise and Mt Norquay - accessed from Banff, surely no town in the world offers a better variety of skiing and snowboarding terrain that Banff? The town’s most important hill, Sunshine Village, receives more snow than any other major ski resort in Canada - averaging 33ft of snow per year - and has the longest ski season in Canada running from mid-November until mid-May. After the lifts shut down, the town of Banff comes alive with bars, pubs, restaurants, lounges and nightclubs. Favourite nights include Thursday nights at Mel’s, Ladies Night at HooDoos and Line Dancing at Wild Bill’s – the SnowSkool Banff courses attracts people who are ready and able to work hard on the slopes during the day but play hard at night!
THE 12-WEEK COURSE
SnowSkool has extended its ski and snowboard instructor course in Banff from 11 weeks to 12 weeks – the longest instructor course available! The primary motivation for this is to ensure that you make the most of Sunshine Village’s long ski season. In this way, we are giving you the opportunity to get more mileage on your skis/ snowboard, have more time to freeski/ freeride, practice your drills/ exam technique, check out other ski hills nearby (Lake Louise, Kicking Horse, Revelstoke) and to obtain more ski instructor qualifications and snowboard instructor qualifications. SnowSkool’s most successful student ever was an eighteen year old girl from Cairns in Queensland, Australia. Annie Thallon finished the SnowSkool Banff programme with the following qualifications:
- CSIA Ski Instructor Level 1
- CSIA Ski Instructor Level 2
- CSCF Race Coach Level 1
- CSIA Snowpark Certificate
- CASI Snowboard Instructor Level 1
- Avalanche Safety Training Level 1
Annie is currently working southern seasons at Thredbo in her native Australia and northern seasons back in Banff!
24 HOURS IN BANFF
Joe Griffiths 20 years old from Essex, UK SnowSkool ski instructor course, Banff 2010
“The day starts early with breakfast between 7 and 7.30am – the SnowSkool staff always seem to be annoyingly chirpy, getting us prepped for the day ahead! If we’ve had a fresh dump, we’ll hit it hard in the morning before focussing on some of the more technical elements after lunch. Sometimes you find yourself riding down and smiling as you think: “haha, this is my life...how cool is that?”. Dinner is always a busy time as 70 people have to be fed together and the SnowSkool reps normally have a few announcements: birthdays, cock o’ the day, evenings entertainments etc...Then we’ll all head down to town, start off in Mel’s for some cheap hi-balls and a game of pool, then on to HooDoos for Ladies Night and, to cap the night off, chuck some shapes on the dancefloor in Auroras! After that, bed and start again tomorrow...!”
